Sun Moon Lake ringed by forested mountains

About Nantou.com

An independent guide to the mountain heart of Taiwan — the lake, the high peaks, the cedar forests and the tea country between them.

Nantou.com exists to answer one question well: how do I make the most of a trip to Nantou?

Nantou is the only landlocked county in Taiwan, and it is routinely reduced to a single line in guidebooks — "day trip to Sun Moon Lake". That undersells it badly. This is a county with the island's largest lake, its highest road, its best oolong and some of its finest forest, and it deserves more than four hours off a coach.

We built this site to gather what a first-time visitor actually needs in one calm, clutter-free place: honest tour picks, practical transport advice, and guides that tell you which things are worth your time and which are not.

What we do

How we stay independent

We are not a tour operator and we do not sell anything ourselves. The site is funded by affiliate commission from GetYourGuide and, for accommodation, Trip.com — which means we earn only if a recommendation is good enough that you act on it. That is the incentive we want. We explain it fully on our affiliate disclosure page.

Corrections

Timetables change, roads close and prices move. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us at [email protected] — we would rather fix it than leave it.
